ABSTRACT

Though a lot of research has been conducted on the effects of buffer size on the end-to end delay and jitter, but we have not come across any study in which the effects of having different buffer sizes in different routers (we call "Heterogeneous Buffer Sizes") have been analyzed. That it is a more likely scenario to have Heterogeneous Buffer Sizes instead of Homogeneous Buffer Sizes.
Hence, du ring my ME research study, I study the effects of Heterogeneous Buffer Sizes on the end-to-end delay and jitter when UDP is used for transmission of data of real time applications. After studying this effect, I hope to establish guidelines to decide optimal buffer sizes to be used in intermediate nodes, which may help in reduction of end-to-end delay and jitter when UDP is used for transmission.
