ABSTRACT

This study focuses to using geo membrane to soil can strengthen the properties. The possible outcome of this research give benefit and fundamental necessary baseline data for using meshes in structures like embankments to prevent the embankment failures, i.e. breaches, failures due to overtopping, erosion/seepage and thus water losses due to seepage. The results benefits also enable to understand mechanical behaviors and strength parameters of different types of geo membrane like fabric and steel under various loading conditions. From results it was found increasing meshes layer can increase the shear strength in soil and can resist embankment failure. It is also found the that friction angle slightly increased with addition of layer; however, effect on cohesion was observed but is not proper and counted as negligible which needs more detailed investigation as cohesion is supposed to be increased. Strain hardening behavior was observed in all the tests and the cemented soils showed higher void ratio reduction and strains.
