ABSTRACT
Indeed, the increasing application of automation & digital control of, operation, protection & HMI usage made power system network (PSN) easier and user friendly. Due to this electrical energy customers are globalized increasing day by day. The increasing demand of electrical energy due to industry, shopping centers, malls, large story buildings, motorways, railways, network control centers, substation automation substation (SAS) playgrounds lighting, & entertainment places machines control has split loads into two categories linear and nonlinear in power system. The nonlinear loads starts from personal office table such as personal computers, Ethernet switches, laptops, electronic bells, switch mode power supplies (SMPS), Electronic control of industrial drives, Electronic blast, Power electronic converters & distributed generation systems have introduced harmonics and power quality problems. So far researchers have fully focused harmonics deduction caused by increasing nonlinear loads .The impact of harmonics and total harmonic distortion (THD) level cannot be tolerated due to Electronic loads. The Harmonics are going to pollute fundamental system frequency hence resultant heat, low power factor & short life of customer equipments and increase network losses. The generated harmonics by the electronic applications impure the power system sine wave which is unacceptable in the network protection schemes. This research work is focusing investigation of harmonics by power electronic converters with transient behavior. The need of focus especially on power electronic converters harmonics because of increasing DGS energy conversions, HVDC
& industrial electronic control. In addition to this, harmonics generated simulations are analyzed of the converters with transient behavior. With the help of breaker blocks in MATLAB and timers adjusted in FFT, it is noted that harmonics THD (%) increased with switching of loaded model. The research work carried out in this thesis has raised the issue of harmonics introduce by different type of power converters with switching behavior specially from distribution system, the switching of non-linear loads in distributors and from consumers terminals with uncontrolled switching raising the
harmonics levels
